Fruit of the Spirit: Self-Control

Oct 31, 2026  •  Cameron Burroughs

In this message, Cameron Burroughs continues the fruit of the Spirit series with self-control, asking the students one searching question: who is in control of your life? He opens with the picture of football players who know how to control the game but cannot control themselves, then walks through the book of Esther to show what self-control looks like and what happens without it. King Xerxes lets anger dictate his decisions, Haman lets pride and revenge consume him to the point of spending a fortune to destroy a whole people, and Esther models self-control by refusing to let fear stop her, fasting and seeking God first, and then patiently waiting for the right moment to act. Cameron points out that God’s name is never mentioned in the book, yet his hand is clearly at work, and he closes with Romans 12:1-2, calling the students to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that God, rather than their emotions, is the one in control.
