If God is not Sovereign, What Then?

Nov 1, 2026  •  Don Chandler

In this opening message of the Gratitude series, Bro. Don takes a different approach to Thanksgiving by starting with the sovereignty of God and why we can be thankful that he is in control of our world and our lives. He works through three honest objections: unexplainable catastrophes, the prosperity of the wicked, and the paradox between God’s sovereignty and man’s free will. He shares his own story of losing his wife while his daughter lived, asking whether God was good in one and bad in the other. Using the stories of Ruth, Joseph, and Peter, he shows how what looked bad was woven by God into something good. Bro. Don closes by reminding us there are two ways to view life, from the bottom up, which leads to doubt and despair, or from the top down, which leads us to trust and worship the God whose throne is established in the heavens.
