Did God Say?
In this closing message of the Questions series, Bro. Don takes us to one of the earliest and most foundational questions in all of Scripture: "Did God say?" He walks through Genesis 3 by examining several first mentions that appear in this passage, each one carrying weight that echoes all the way through the rest of the Bible. First is the first mention of Satan, introduced not as an all powerful being but as a crafty and cunning creature whose primary tools are doubt and deception. Bro. Don reminds us that any time we find ourselves questioning the truth of God's word, we can trace that doubt back to the enemy. Second is the first mention of sin, which is shown to be attractive on the front side but devastating on the back side, destroying Adam and Eve's peace, their relationship with God, and ultimately bringing death into the world. Third is the first mention of a Savior in verse 15, where God promises that the offspring of the woman will crush the serpent's head, revealing that Jesus was never plan B but was always God's plan before creation itself. Fourth is the first mention of judgment, as Adam and Eve are confronted with their sin and the blame game begins, a pattern Bro. Don connects directly to our own tendency to shift responsibility rather than own our disobedience. Finally is the first mention of sacrifice, as God clothes Adam and Eve with animal skins, pointing forward to the ultimate substitute who would one day shed his blood to cover our sin completely.
