Lesson Four
In this sermon on Luke 14:25–33, Bro. Don teaches on the cost of true discipleship, emphasizing that while salvation is free, following Christ requires total commitment, surrender, and prioritizing Him above all else. He explains that Jesus’ command to “hate” family and even one’s own life is a contrast to show that our love for Christ must surpass every other love. Discipleship involves bearing one’s own cross—a cross of surrender, responsibility, and obedience—not the cross of salvation. Using illustrations of building a tower and going to war, Bro. Don emphasizes the importance of counting the cost, planning, and finishing what we begin, warning that incomplete commitment brings both earthly humiliation and spiritual consequences. He stresses that worldly possessions, titles, and relationships are not our identity; our true identity is as a child of God, called to faithfully follow Him. True discipleship requires renouncing personal priorities, keeping our focus on Christ, and persevering in obedience despite challenges, trusting that God works through those who fully commit to Him.
