Sheep Without A Shepherd

In this message, Michael Treat opens with a striking photo from the 1993 Sudan famine to challenge the students to ask honestly which character they identify with, the vulture, the indifferent photographer, or the struggling child. He then turns to Matthew 9 and walks through five qualities of Jesus that should shape the way we engage the lost world around us. Jesus was intentional, going to where people were rather than waiting for them to come to him. He was attentive, taking the time to truly see people. He was compassionate, moved deeply in his gut by the condition of those around him. He was perceptive, seeing past the surface to recognize people as harassed, helpless, and scattered like sheep without a shepherd. And he was strategic, calling his disciples not just to feel sorry for the lost but to pray for laborers and then go be those laborers. Michael closes by casting a vision for the ministry to become a community that goes out, shares the gospel, and comes back to debrief and celebrate what God has done.
