Having a Heart Like Jesus for the World

Jun 17, 2026    Dr. Ben South

zIn this message, Bro. Ben South opens with a brief report from a recent mission trip to Guatemala before turning to Matthew 9 with a central question: how do we develop a heart like Jesus for the world? He walks through the passage by asking four things of the congregation. First, he challenges us to see what Jesus sees, reminding us that when Jesus looked at the crowds he was not seeing a mass of humanity but individual souls with an eternal destiny. Second, he calls us to feel what Jesus feels, unpacking the word compassion as a deep gut level anguish over the eternal condition of people who are wandering without a shepherd. Third, he helps us understand what Jesus understands, that the people around us are like sheep without a shepherd, looking for something that matters but following things that will only lead them into danger. Fourth, he calls us to know what Jesus knows, that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few, and that there is a farmer's urgency to bring souls into the kingdom before judgment comes. Bro. Ben closes with two responses Jesus calls us to: pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers, and ask honestly whether God is sending you to the harvest right where you are.
