The Long Ending
Michael Treat concluded the study of Mark by examining the longer ending of Mark 16 and acknowledging the textual questions surrounding verses 9–20 while emphasizing that the passage still reflects truths found throughout the New Testament. He highlighted the reality of Christ’s resurrection through His appearances to Mary Magdalene, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the eleven apostles, noting that the disciples’ initial unbelief was rebuked because Jesus had already promised His resurrection. The message centered on Christ’s commission for believers to take the gospel to the world, explaining that evangelism is the first step of discipleship and that Christians are called to live missionally in both everyday life and special opportunities for service. Michael also addressed the signs and miracles associated with the early church, explaining their role in authenticating the apostolic message, before focusing on Christ’s ascension and ongoing ministry from heaven. He concluded by encouraging believers to trust that Jesus still works through His people, empowering them to obey, serve, share the gospel, and pursue God’s mission with confidence, knowing He never leaves or forsakes them.
