Lesson 5
Bro. Don preached from Acts 2 to examine the attitude and spiritual character of the early church, asking the convicting question, “Is this that?” as he compared the church of today with the church God originally designed. He described the first believers as a people marked by unwavering faithfulness to the Word, deep love for one another, fervent prayer, true worship, spiritual unity, sacrificial generosity, and joyful daily fellowship centered on Christ. Their lives were not built around convenience, self-interest, or occasional attendance, but around a consuming passion for God’s presence, God’s people, and God’s mission. Bro. Don emphasized that they trusted the Lord enough to give, serve, encourage, and meet needs without fear, believing that God would continue to provide. Because their focus was singular and their hearts were surrendered, the power of God was evident among them, their testimony was fruitful, and souls were being saved continually. He challenged the modern church to recognize that if today’s results do not resemble the book of Acts, the difference is not in God, whose power and purpose have never changed, but in believers who have lost their fervency, focus, and full dependence upon Him.
